Biography

Lisa Kewley is a Professor of Astronomy at Harvard University and the Director of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. She obtained her PhD from the Australian National University in 2002, focusing on star formation and supermassive black holes in galaxies. Kewley has held prestigious fellowships including Hubble Fellow and has received numerous awards for her contributions to astrophysics. Her accolades include the American Astronomical Society's Annie Jump Cannon Award in 2006 and the Newton Lacy Pierce Prize in 2008, as well as the James Craig Watson Medal from the U.S. National Academy of Sciences in 2020. She was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 2014 for her fundamental advances in understanding the history of the universe, particularly in star and galaxy formation. Additionally, Kewley implemented the scientific vision for the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in All-Sky Astrophysics 3D (ASTRO 3D) from 2017 to 2022. In July 2022, she became the Director of the Center for Astrophysics at Harvard and Smithsonian, where she continues to promote ambitious new research initiatives.
