Dr. Lisa Mcneill

Biography

Lisa Mcneill is a Professor of Tectonics at the University of Southampton, specializing in the study of active tectonics and associated geological hazards. Her research interests focus on active tectonics, subduction zones, continental rifts, marine geophysics, and the geohazards they present. She employs various methodologies including marine geophysics, sediment coring, scientific ocean drilling, and paleoseismology to investigate tectonic evolution and fault behaviors. Notable current projects involve the study of subduction zones across Sumatra, Hikurangi, Cascadia, Nankai, and Makran, as well as research on the Gulf of Corinth in Greece, which is among the fastest extending regions on Earth. Mcneill has held notable roles including Co-Chair of the IODP Science Evaluation Panel and was actively involved in various esteemed research projects under the auspices of the British Geological Survey and the European Union. She holds a BA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Structural Geology from Oregon State University. She has been recognized with several accolades, including the Geological Society London Coke Medal in 2020.
