Biography

Lisa Porter is a Professor and Associate Dean for Faculty Graduate Affairs at Carnegie Mellon University. She received her Ph.D. and B.S. in Materials Science Engineering from North Carolina State University and Cornell University, respectively. She actively serves as a research advisor for graduate and undergraduate students and is deeply involved in outreach activities within scientific societies. In 2018, she was elected president of the American Vacuum Society (AVS), a significant international society for science & technology concerning materials, interfaces, and processing. Her past leadership roles include serving as the Conference Chair for the Electronic Materials Conference. Lisa has received numerous honors and awards, including being named a Fellow of the AVS, inducted into the N.C. State MSE Alumni Hall of Fame, and receiving the Philbrook Prize in Engineering. She has also been recognized with the Women Driving Material World Award from the Women & Girls Foundation and the National Science Foundation CAREER Award. Her research interests include the development of energy-efficient semiconductor technologies and exploring alternative materials for future computing.
