Biography

Lisa Prokopich received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo in 1990, after which she undertook Residency training at the Eye Institute of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia (now Salus University) with an emphasis on ocular disease management. She returned to the University of Waterloo in 1991 as a Clinical Lecturer and later became the Head of the Ocular Health Clinic. Prokopich has been actively involved in proposing government legislation changes that allow optometrists in Ontario to prescribe therapeutic pharmaceutical agents. As the Continuing Education Chair for over a decade, she spearheaded multiple 100-hour and 20-hour Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agent (TPA) courses across Canada, culminating in Ontario's TPA law implementation in 2011. She has also run optometric and ophthalmological services at the Vision Centre of the Grand River Hospital and the Freeport Community Health Centre. Her scholarly interests include teaching ocular disease management and clinical ocular pharmacology, and she has authored chapters in textbooks on clinical techniques in pharmacology. Prokopich achieved a Master of Vision Science in 2004 under the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) / E.A. Baker fellowship awarded to optometrists.
