Lisa Serbin is a professor in the Department of Psychology at Concordia University. Her research program focuses on the inter-generational transfer of psycho-social risk and health development in children who are at risk for developmental problems and psychopathology. She conducts ongoing studies examining risk and resiliency in the offspring of participants from the original Concordia Longitudinal Risk Project, which includes a group of one hundred children and adolescents from inner-city backgrounds followed intensively from early childhood. Specific projects investigate the effects of poverty and environmental stress on children's health over time, as well as predictors of successful trajectories for children at risk of school failure. Additionally, her work aims to understand the environmental, neuro-endocrine, and parenting factors that contribute to the development of internalizing disorders in children. Her research has received funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, and the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Société et culture.
Administered by the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema; focuses on cinematic arts practice and research-creation.
