As a member of several professional organizations, including the Gastroenterology Society of Australia and the American Gastroenterological Association, Dr. Shim is dedicated to advancing the understanding of the pathophysiological processes involved in functional gastrointestinal disorders and their psychological manifestations, with multiple publications in areas such as chronic constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. Recently, she has been involved in research trials regarding laryngopharyngeal reflux and functional dyspepsia.
