Biography

Lisa Sunde is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics at Cornell University. She has a deep passion for American Sign Language (ASL), believing that it can be learned and enjoyed by all. Lisa's interest in ASL stems from her early experiences growing up in a hearing family and attending oral schools, where she developed a love for language. She emphasizes the beauty of ASL as an essential communication tool that helps build relationships and share experiences. Lisa teaches various courses, including Deaf Culture, ASL Linguistics, and both foundational and advanced ASL classes. Her teaching experience includes positions at Front Range Community College, the University of Colorado Boulder, and Santa Fe Community College, where she also served as the head of the ASL Program. Lisa holds a BA in Communication Studies from Gallaudet University and an MA in Teaching American Sign Language from the University of Northern Colorado. Besides teaching, she enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures and languages.
