Biography

Lisa Sundstrom is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where she has been a faculty member since 2002. She completed her PhD at Stanford University. Her research interests include democratic and autocratic dynamics, human rights, gender politics, climate politics, and NGO activism within both domestic and international arenas, with a regional expertise in Russia and the former Soviet Union. Sundstrom has played a significant role in leading the Human Rights Section of the International Studies Association and has been an active supporter of UBC’s research community, serving as the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Advisor since 2021. In her capacity as Associate Vice-President of Research & Innovation, she is committed to enhancing research initiatives and collaborations across various disciplines at UBC.
