Biography

Lisa Suzuki conducts research on multicultural assessment, focusing particularly on understanding how culture impacts the cognitive assessment process. Her work also emphasizes the use of qualitative research strategies with diverse ethnocultural groups. She serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development and the Psychological Assessment. Additionally, she is a consulting editor for the Asian American Journal of Psychology, and a senior co-editor for the Handbook of Multicultural Assessment (with Joseph Ponterotto), as well as a co-editor for the Handbook of Multicultural Counseling (with Manuel Casas, Charlene Alexander, and Margo Jackson). Suzuki has co-authored the book Intelligent Testing of Minority Students (with Richard Valencia) and co-edited Using Qualitative Methods in Psychology. She collaborates with undergraduate and graduate students on studies focusing on the meaning-making processes of Holocaust survivors in collaboration with the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City. Suzuki has received numerous awards, including the Distinguished Contribution Award from the Asian American Psychological Association (2006) and the Visionary Leadership Award from the National Multicultural Conference and Summit (2007).
