Biography

Lisa B. Thompson is an award-winning playwright and professor specializing in African American literature and performance studies. She serves as the Bobby Sherri Patton Professor of African American Diaspora Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where she also holds courtesy appointments in English, Theatre Dance, and Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies. A graduate of Stanford University with a Ph.D. in Modern Thought & Literature, her research interests include Black theatre, memoir, feminist theory, and cultural studies. She has published several books, including 'Black Lady: Sexuality New African American Middle Class' and 'Underground, Monroe, Mamalogues: Plays.' Her creative works have received numerous accolades, and her essays have appeared in well-respected journals and anthologies. Thompson also co-hosts the 'Black Austin Matters' podcast, engaging with various topics relevant to the Black community in the Greater Austin area. Her plays have been produced off-Broadway and by several theater organizations across the country.
