Dr. Lisa Villadsen

Biography

Lisa S. Villadsen is a Professor of Rhetoric at the University of Copenhagen, where she has been appointed since August 2020. Previously, she served as an Associate Professor in the same department. Villadsen's research focuses on the role of rhetoric in public life, particularly in political contexts. She investigates how rhetorical criticism can reveal the norms underlying public messages and discussions. Her current research projects include studying political debate and rhetorical citizenship, emphasizing the need for listening in public discourse. Villadsen has taught numerous courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, covering topics like rhetorical criticism and rhetorical citizenship. She holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University, where her dissertation explored the theme of seduction in rhetoric. Her professional contributions extend beyond academia, having served as president of the Rhetorica Scandinavica journal, among other leadership roles in research and education.
