Biography

Lisa Winberg von Friesen is a PhD fellow at the University of Copenhagen, focused on the Center for Volatile Interactions. Her research primarily involves being a marine ecologist, with a significant emphasis on microbial ecology and biogeochemical cycling, particularly regarding nitrogen. In her PhD studies, she is investigating biological nitrogen fixation in the Arctic Ocean—focusing on how nitrogen fixation takes place, its importance, and its potential influence on the extent of primary production, which is limited by nitrogen in the Arctic. She aims to understand the processes in detail and how nitrogen fixation is regulated within the rapidly changing Arctic environment and among the structured diazotrophic community. Additionally, she is interested in marine pollution and ecotoxicology, specifically concerning microplastics and plastic additives in the Arctic marine environment. Lisa is proud to be involved with the International Arctic Science Committee as a fellow in their marine working group for 2023.
