Lisa Yeomans is an Associate Professor at the Section of Geobiology at the University of Copenhagen. She is a zooarchaeologist whose research focuses on understanding the intricacies, causes, and consequences of shifts in the entangled history of humans, animals, and environments on a global scale. The datasets utilized in her current research primarily derive from Southwest Asia. Yeomans’ work centers around broad, interrelated themes, including using zooarchaeological evidence to further the understanding of past environments, human subsistence strategies, changing human-animal interactions, and shifts in animal management due to urbanization, industrialization, and globalization. She is the Principal Investigator of a project investigating the role of birds as key evidence of human vulnerability and resilience in environmental shifts during the pre-agricultural context. Her research develops geometric morphometric and proteomic methods for the identification of waterfowl remains, allowing for detailed environmental reconstructions. These methods are currently applied to archaeological evidence from the Late Pleistocene to the Early Holocene wetlands of Eastern Jordan. Furthermore, her work questions the understanding of past human-animal interactions and provides insights into the current biodiversity crisis, promoting the importance of leveraging traditional ecological knowledge for a sustainable future for both humans and non-human animals.
