Dr. Lisbette Acosta

Biography

Lisbette Acosta is a writer, researcher, and artist at Yale School of Medicine. Originally from La Vega, Dominican Republic, she is currently based in New Haven, Connecticut, where she bridges her experiences across locations in her work. Her research focuses on the psychology of food and water insecurity in the Caribbean, the effects of discrimination in healthcare encounters, and health equity pedagogy in medical schools across the U.S. With departmental honors in Psychology, Education Studies, and pre-medical studies from Yale College, Lisbette has significant mentorship experience in the spaces she inhabits. She has been featured in USA work as Head Advising Fellow, Outreach Coordinator, panel moderator, and curriculum creator for Matriculate, a national non-profit organization that connects low-income high school students with college students to guide them through the college application process. Lisbette has been recognized for her mentorship roles at Yale, supporting students with disabilities and first-year students through initiatives like Dwight Hall's First-Years Support New Haven. Her research has been acknowledged at Harvard Medical School and Yale School of Medicine, alongside her contributions to improving cardiovascular outcomes in the Eastern Caribbean and advocating for disability representation. Lisbette aspires to become a medical sociologist focused on immigrant populations from Hispaniola and aims to collaborate with international organizations on humanitarian crises in the Caribbean, enhancing human rights for Haitians and Black individuals globally. She is committed to equitable global justice for future generations.
