Biography

Lise Gauvin has been teaching in the Department of French Studies at the Université de Montréal since 1969. She served as the director of the journal Études françaises from 1994 to 2000 and has contributed to the newspaper Le Devoir among other journals. Gauvin was elected president of the Association des éditeurs de périodiques culturels québécois in 1984 and became the head of her department in 1998. In 2008, she became president of the Académie des lettres du Québec. She has received various awards, including the Prix des Arcades de Bologne for her collection of short stories Fugitives in 1992 and the Prix France-Québec in 1999 for L'écrivain francophone à la croisée des langues. Gauvin is a member of the Ordre des francophones d'Amérique and the Société royale du Canada. Throughout her career, she has published scholarly works and written on the interplay of language and literature in Quebec and francophone literatures. Her research has focused on the critical examination of literary forms and the relationships between literature and ideology, resulting in significant contributions to literary studies both in local and global contexts. Gauvin has guided many dissertations and is known for her engagement with contemporary literary topics and research collaborations in Quebec culture.
