Dr. Lise Sunde

Biography

Lise Bødtker Sunde is a PhD student at the University of Copenhagen, focusing on kinship co-residence and family household experiences of rural-urban migrants in Denmark from 1870 to 1945. Her research sheds light on the life courses of these migrants during a time of significant urbanization, when many individuals relocated from rural areas to burgeoning towns and cities. By utilizing a mixed methods approach, Sunde combines quantitative analysis of extensive historical datasets, which include millions of individual census records, with qualitative studies derived from memoirs and autobiographies sourced from the National Museum’s Ethnological Surveys. Her project is funded by the Danish National Research Foundation as part of the TRANSITION - Centre for Changing Urban Rural Lives, collaborating with the Danish National Museum. Sunde’s work addresses important themes in historical demography and social relationships, contributing to a deeper understanding of individual migration trajectories and family dynamics during this transformative period in Danish society.
