Biography

Felicity (Litty) Paxton is the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. She received her Ph.D. in American Civilization and a Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. Previously, she has taught at the University of East Anglia and served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Emory University at the Center for Myth and Ritual in American Life. As a Thouron Fellow, she has received various fellowships from the Fulbright Commission, British Academy, Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and Radcliffe Institute at Harvard. Paxton has a long history of contributing to the academic community through teaching a variety of courses, including “Critical Approaches to Popular Culture” and “Ritual Communication.” She has also been active in a number of initiatives to promote diversity and wellness within the university, including the establishment of the Penn Violence Prevention program and the creation of the lactation room at the Penn Women’s Center. Recognized for her exemplary teaching, Paxton has received multiple awards for teaching excellence over her career, including the University of Pennsylvania Provost’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2018.
