Liv Naidoo joined the School of Law as a Lecturer in Commercial Law in January 2020. She obtained her LLB (cum laude) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, an LLM in Shipping Law (with distinction) from the University of Cape Town, and completed her PhD at the University of Southampton in 2019 as a Commonwealth Scholar. Her doctoral research examined the legal regulation of marine insurance contracts through the lens of applied contract theory. Liv is admitted as an Attorney and Notary of the High Court in South Africa and has practiced in areas including International Trade, Shipping, and Insurance Law. She has held visiting researcher positions at the University of Cambridge, the University of International Business and Economics in China, and the University of Cape Town. Liv is an Executive Committee Member of the British Insurance Law Association (BILA) and has also held the position of Assistant Honorary Editor for the BILA Journal. Additionally, she serves as the Director of PGT Studies at the School of Law and is a member of both the Corporate Financial Law Research Group and the Private Law Research Group. Her research interests include Insurance (Contract) Law Theory, International Commercial Law, Shipping Law, Private Law Theory, Sustainability, Technology, and Insurance Shipping Markets. Liv welcomes applications for PhD supervision in these areas.
