Biography

Liviu Matenco is a professor at Utrecht University, specializing in tectonics and sedimentary basins. He has been appointed as the Chair of Tectonics for the Earth Simulation Lab since September 1, 2017. His inaugural lecture took place on November 28, 2018. Professor Matenco's research focuses on various aspects of sedimentary basins, including their formation and evolution, long-term sediment dynamics, and the coupling of anthropogenic systems with natural geologic processes. He is also involved in studying orogenic structures and lithosphere dynamics, exploring the evolution of sedimentary sequences driven by tectonic activities. He serves as the Chief Editor for 'Global Planetary Change' and is associated with the International Lithosphere Program's Task Force VI on sedimentary basins. Through his teaching, he imparts knowledge on structural geology, dynamics of basins, orogeny, reflection seismology, and fieldwork research instruction.
