Biography

Livnat Jerby is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics at Stanford University and an Allen Distinguished Investigator. She is also a Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Investigator. Her research focuses on understanding and manipulating the immune system, particularly in the context of cancer. Jerby's group employs advanced genetic tools and high-throughput readouts, integrating AI and data-driven experimental design, cell engineering, and synthetic biology to develop therapies targeting malignant and premalignant cells. They aim to elucidate complex biological processes and optimize cellular functions by conducting multiplexed experiments across extensive combinatorial search spaces. Notably, her team has identified programmable mechanisms for redirecting T cells and Natural Killer cells to combat solid tumors, and pioneered innovative RNA-based interventions to sensitize cancer cells for immune elimination. Jerby holds a BSc, MSc, and PhD in life sciences and Computer Science from Tel Aviv University, followed by postdoctoral research at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades, including the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Award, Liz Tilberis Early Career Award from the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, and various other grants and awards from prestigious foundations.
