Dr. Yang received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2000. After completing postdoctoral fellowship training at the Max‐Planck Institute for Human Development and the University of Toronto in 2005, she joined the Department of Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University. Dr. Yang's research focuses on aging and culture-related topics, cognitive plasticity in the aging brain, and cultural differences in cognition, particularly in areas such as emotional information processing. Her recent work has investigated psychological well-being among minoritized immigrant populations in Canada, especially during the pandemic. To date, Dr. Yang has published 82 peer-reviewed articles (including 6 book chapters) and has presented at various conferences. Her research has appeared in high-impact journals, including 'Brain Cognition,' 'Cognition Emotion,' and 'Psychology Aging.' She has received several awards for her contributions to research and education, including the Dean’s Scholarly, Research and Creative Activity Award in 2021 and the Outstanding Contribution to Graduate Education Award from the Yeates School of Graduate Studies in 2015. Dr. Yang teaches a range of undergraduate and graduate courses and has supervised numerous graduate and undergraduate students in research projects.
