Biography

Liya Xu received her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Southern California in 2010. Following her graduation, she joined the Biomedical Pioneering Innovation Center (BIOPIC) at Peking University, where she led the development of a one-step generation sequencing (NGS) based Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD), enabling the simultaneous avoidance of monogenic diseases and chromosomal abnormalities. In 2017, she collaborated with Dr. Jesse Berry on developing an aqueous humor (AH) surrogate tumor biopsy for retinoblastoma (RB), aiming to revolutionize precision medicine in the detection and management of RB. Her research focuses on integrating patient and model systems with high-content single particle data to translate clinical observations into a mechanistic understanding of the biological dynamics of ocular cancers, particularly retinoblastoma. Additionally, her projects include developing clinical utility for aqueous humor liquid biopsy platforms and characterizing tumor circulomes in aqueous humor using multi-omics approaches.
