Liz Gre (pronounced Grey) is a Black Midwestern American composer, multi-disciplinary artist, researcher, and vocalist known for their genre-less compositions created in collaboration with others. Their artistic practice is deeply rooted in storytelling and exploring the visceral realms of the imaginary and opacity of the human experience. As a sound artist-researcher, Gre delves into the applied use of Endarkened Co-Composition, a collaborative method that centers on Black and Indigenous forms of storytelling and story-keeping. This collaborative approach involves creative sound and music-making processes that are non-linear and focused on creating spaces for sharing stories and experiences that fundamentally shape sonic outputs. Currently, Gre serves as a cross-departmental Lecturer at the University of Southampton in Music and Art and Media Technology and acts as the Doctoral Programme Director in Music. Their work has been exhibited in notable venues such as Lindisfarne Castle, Lisson Gallery, and Queens Museum, and has included performances at prestigious events, showcasing their innovative collaborative projects.
