Dr. Liz Lightstone

Biography

Liz Lightstone is a Proconsul Professor in Renal Medicine at Imperial College London and an Honorary Consultant Physician at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Her research primarily focuses on improving outcomes for patients with lupus nephritis during pregnancy in women with kidney disease. She holds a medical degree from Cambridge University and was awarded a gold medal from the University of London. Lightstone has extensive training in general medicine and nephrology and has held prestigious fellowships, including the MRC Clinical Training Fellowship and MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship. In 2014, she was appointed as a senior lecturer and subsequently promoted to full professor. She is renowned for her expertise in glomerulonephritis, particularly lupus nephritis, and has a strong commitment to addressing health inequalities. Lightstone is actively involved in various national and international nephrology committees and has contributed to guidelines on lupus and pregnancy in kidney disease. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, she played a significant role in managing severely ill patients and has led initiatives in educating health professionals. Her dedication to mentoring young academic trainees, particularly women, is noteworthy.
