Biography

Liza McDonough is an Adjunct Fellow at the School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences at the University of New South Wales. Her research focuses on determining the molecular character of organic matter in groundwater through the use of organic matter characterization techniques and isotopic analyses. McDonough's work significantly contributes to understanding the terrestrial surface water carbon cycle, particularly as a major carbon sink, and the cycling of organic carbon in groundwater, which has been largely unquantified. The findings from her research are intended to guide policy and enable effective management of groundwater resources as part of the carbon economy.
