Biography

Lizanne Henderson is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Social & Environmental Sustainability, University of Glasgow, where she teaches History, Tourism, and Human-Animal Studies. She was born in Toronto, Canada, and earned a BA Double Honours in History and Fine Art from the University of Guelph, Ontario, an MA in Folklore from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and a PhD in History from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. Her research largely focuses on Early Modern Scottish and British social and cultural history, including the Scottish witch-hunts, supernatural beliefs, and cultural attitudes towards non-human animals. Henderson has published extensively on these topics and has been involved in significant projects regarding wildlife tourism and Arctic studies. She has contributed to numerous international conferences and journals and has been recognized with awards, including the Katharine Briggs Book Award. Henderson is also an accomplished public speaker, delivering keynote addresses across Europe, North America, and Japan, and has volunteered in wildlife conservation projects in Kenya. An artist and photographer, she enjoys capturing landscapes and wildlife themes in her works.
