LJ Slovin (they/them) is an interdisciplinary scholar with a background in youth work and sexual health education. Their research focuses on queer trans youth, labor, and how these students perform and exist in schools. Slovin aims to rethink risk narratives and cultivate a desire-based pedagogy, understanding transness as a beautiful way to grow and exist. They work across multiple fields including physical health education, sexual health education, queer trans theory, popular culture, and disability justice. Slovin earned their PhD in Curriculum and Pedagogy, as well as an MA in Sociology from the University of British Columbia, and a BA in Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Wesleyan University. They have received the Vanier Scholar award and the Pat Clifford Award in 2021, along with the Queer SIG Article of the Year Award from AERA.
