Biography

Ljiljana Biuković is a Professor at the Peter Allard School of Law, where she specializes in Contract Law, European Union Law, and International Trade Law. She earned her LL.B. from the University of Belgrade in 1986 and pursued further studies, obtaining two LL.M. degrees—one from Central European University Budapest in 1995 and another from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in the same year. She completed her Ph.D. at UBC in 2000. Biuković's research interests center around international economic law and European Union integration, focusing on the implications of legal transplantation, the interaction of international trade rules with local human rights norms, and the performance of international trade agreements, especially in the context of developing countries. She has contributed significant work as a co-investigator on the Major Collaborative Research Initiative funded by SSHRC, which deals with Coordinated Compliance in International Trade Law and Human Rights. Currently, she is involved in a new research project examining collective memories in international law and is looking forward to supervising new graduate students in the field of international trade law and regional economic integration starting from 2025/2026.
