Lloyd Alimboyao Sy is an Assistant Professor of English at Yale University. He specializes in American literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with a particular focus on Native literatures and environmental humanities. His current research centers on a book project titled 'Shape Forest Come,' which explores the historical implications of deforestation in the context of the nineteenth-century American logging industry and how Native writers respond to the environmental and economic transformations brought about by settler colonialism. Through this project, he aims to discern the forms of life and labor that may be possible in light of material ecological devastation. Additionally, Sy investigates American literary regionalism by rereading its history in conjunction with geographically proximate texts authored by Native peoples. His scholarly work has been featured or is forthcoming in prestigious venues such as PMLA, American Quarterly, American Literary History, and ELH. He joined the faculty at Yale in 2022 after earning his Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia in 2023.
