Biography

Lluís Vilanova is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London, where he co-leads the Large-Scale Data & Systems (LSDS) group and is a co-founder of the Cloud and Data Exascale Computing Hub. His research encompasses computer architecture, operating systems, security, and he has a particular interest in using co-design of hardware and software layers to resolve the traditional conflict between security and performance. Previously, Lluís was a post-doctoral researcher at Technion’s Electrical Engineering department, having obtained his PhD from the Computer Architecture Department at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. His work has involved collaborations with notable researchers and institutions, including the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. Lluís’s research interests span a wide array of systems research, focusing on efficiency, simplicity, and security, particularly in the context of computer architecture, operating systems, runtimes, virtualization, and resource management in heterogeneous parallel systems. He actively recruits individuals to join his research group and invites interest in various opportunities within these domains.
