Logman Arja is currently an adjunct assistant professor at the School of Architecture. His research focuses on Ruralism and Rural Architecture, thoroughly examining responsive systems and disruptive approaches to revalorize the rural economy. He introduces Ruralism as an opposition to Urbanism, and advocates for its consideration in the architectural discourse. Arja is working to advance earth architecture through ceramic production and additive manufacturing technology in rural community contexts. He leads efforts to adopt additive manufacturing technology in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a long-term goal of producing sustainable housing solutions for rural micro-infrastructures. As a passionate young architect and educator, he believes architecture is a powerful statement that can connect and communicate. Arja consciously aims to instrumentalize architecture to help transform local communities. The courses he teaches confront students with questions about architecture, technology, and innovation, offering solutions to pressing global issues such as poverty, epidemics, environmental degradation, and civil unrest. A proponent of interdisciplinary research and teaching, he provides students opportunities to work in new ecologies and explore new approaches. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, Arja taught at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Oregon. He has received numerous awards for his scholarly and creative work, including the Design Spatial Justice Fellowship from the University of Oregon, the John K. Branner Traveling Fellowship, the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship from UC Berkeley, the Rondine Cittadella della Pace Fellowship in Italy, and a Fulbright Scholarship.
