Loïc Markley received his B.A.Sc. with Honours from the School of Engineering at Simon Fraser University in 2004. He moved to the University of Toronto to pursue graduate studies in the Electromagnetics Group, obtaining his M.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 2007 and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2013. He briefly held a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Toronto before accepting a faculty position in Kelowna, joining the School of Engineering as an Assistant Professor on July 1, 2013. Markley has received several awards, including the NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarship at both the Master's and Doctoral levels, as well as the NSERC Postgraduate Fellowship. He was also a recipient of the IEEE MTT Graduate Fellowship in 2009 and the IEEE MTT-S Tatsuo Itoh Paper Award for his paper published in IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters in 2015. He has served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters. His research interests include electromagnetics, focusing on both fundamental and applied topics such as near-field focusing, imaging, microwave circuits, antennas, and wave propagation. He is particularly interested in the study of metamaterials—artificial materials with exotic electrical and magnetic properties—and applied antenna design in microwave engineering.
