Dr. Lon Kurashige

Biography

Professor Lon Kurashige specializes in Asian-American history, focusing on ethnic identity politics, internment studies, and comparative ethnicity. He earned his Ph.D. in American History from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in December 1994. His research explores transnational migration, racial ideologies, and the complexities of identity within the Asian American experience in the United States. Kurashige has authored and edited several significant works, including 'Global Americans: A History of the United States' and 'Pacific America: Histories of Transoceanic Crossings.' He has contributed book chapters and journal articles examining the nuances of race and immigration, including critiques of historiography and cultural enactments related to Asian American identities. Kurashige has received various accolades for his scholarship, including the USC Innovative Teaching Award and a Fulbright Award. He has been an integral part of the University of Southern California since 1995 and currently holds a professorship. His work continues to influence the understanding of Asian-American history and its implications in contemporary society.
