Biography

Lonneke van der Plas is an Associate Professor in Language Technology at the University of Malta and Group Lead at the Idiap Research Institute in Martigny, Switzerland. She previously held a junior professorship at the University of Stuttgart and a postdoctoral position at the University of Geneva. Lonneke earned her PhD from the University of Groningen and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge. Her research interests center on natural language processing, particularly focusing on multilingual natural language processing, computational semantics, and computational creativity. She leads various research projects funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, Innosuisse, H2020, Erasmus+, and the German Research Foundation, collaborating with colleagues from linguistics, cognitive sciences, and management studies. Lonneke has been a visiting fellow at prestigious institutions including the University of Zurich, the University of Melbourne, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and has authored over 50 publications in her field.
