Dr. Lonnie Graham

Biography

Lonnie Graham is an artist, photographer, and cultural activist whose work addresses the integral role of artists in society. He seeks to re-establish artists as creative problem solvers. Graham is a Pew Fellow and a Professor of Art Photography at Pennsylvania State University. Previously, he held the position of Acting Associate Director at the Fabric Workshop Museum in Philadelphia and served as the Executive Director of PhotoAlliance in San Francisco. He was also the Director of Photography at the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild in Pittsburgh, dedicated to art education for at-risk youth. Graham's pilot projects, merging arts and academics, became a Harvard case study and were subsequently cited by Lady Hillary Clinton as a national model for arts education. Among his notable contributions, the 'African/American Garden Project' was commissioned during the Rivers Arts Festival. He has received multiple fellowships, awards, and is recognized for his work, including a TEDx talk on economic disparities affecting artists. His exhibitions have included installations at notable venues and his work is part of prestigious collections.
