Dr. Lora Viola

Biography

Lora Anne Viola is a Professor in Political Science at the John F. Kennedy Institute of Freie Universität Berlin (FUB). She received her PhD in Political Science from the University of Chicago and a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the same institution. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Economics from Columbia University. Professor Viola's research centers on the design and development of international institutions, international relations theory, and foreign policy. Her monograph, "Closure International System: Institutions Create Political Equalities Hierarchies," published by Cambridge University Press in 2020, received several prestigious awards including the ECPR Hedley Bull Prize in 2021. She has held research fellowships at reputable institutions including the European University Institute, and she has been a visiting scholar at Stanford and Oxford universities. Her work has been published in numerous academic journals, and she is actively engaged in various committees related to international relations. Professor Viola is known for her expertise in transatlantic relations and frequently comments on current foreign policy issues.
