Biography

Lóránt Tavasszy is a full professor in Freight Transport & Logistics at Delft University of Technology. He studied Civil Engineering and completed his PhD research in 1996, focusing on multimodal freight transport models in Europe. From 1996 to 2016, he worked at the Dutch national research institute TNO as a researcher, manager, and principal scientist, while also holding part-time chairs at the University of Nijmegen and TU Delft. His research interests include freight transportation modelling at urban, national, and global levels. At TU Delft, he leads the Freight & Logistics lab, which brings together researchers from six faculties. Professor Tavasszy currently chairs the Scientific Committee for the World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTRS) and is involved in various professional committees such as the Sustainability Task Group of the EU Technology Platform ALICE and scientific advisory groups for Freight Corridors under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Waterways, Transport Safety at the Instituut Fysieke Veiligheid, and Port Innovations through Smartport. His expertise encompasses Freight Transport Chains, Logistics, and Cities, focusing on Freight Transport Supply and Ports.
