Biography

Loren Chiu is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta. He holds a PhD in Biokinesiology from the University of Southern California (2008) and has a Master’s degree in Human Movement Sciences Education from the University of Memphis (2002), as well as a Bachelor degree in Human Kinetics from the University of British Columbia (2000). Dr. Chiu's research focuses on the design of the musculoskeletal system and its influence on performance in multi-joint human movement. His investigations include examining how the structure of bones and joints influences physical function, determining how the strength of key muscles affects multi-joint movement performance, and developing novel techniques and equipment to evaluate human movement and muscle function. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and has experience as a Level 1 Weightlifting Coach with the Canadian Weightlifting Federation.
