I obtained my PhD from Swansea University working on the regulation of stress responses in the bacterial genus Streptomyces under the supervision of Prof. Paul Dyson. I then moved to a post-doctoral position at INBIOTEC, a biotechnology institute in León, Spain, where I worked on signal transduction, genome sequencing, and proteome analysis of Streptomyces. Following this, I joined Prof. Mervyn Bibb’s research group at the John Innes Centre as a post-doctoral scientist, focusing on the regulation of antibiotic production. I developed genetic tools to work with actinomycetes and collaborated with Prof. Barrie Wilkinson studying virulence factors of the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa to explore potential drug targets. I secured an academic position at Edge Hill University, continuing my research on the regulation of antibiotic biosynthetic gene clusters and investigating soil microbial interactions, a field I find fascinating. Currently, I am a Reader in Bacteriology at the School of Infection and Immunity at the University of Glasgow.
