Dr. Lorenz Hilfiker

Biography

Lorenz Hilfiker is a scientific staff member at the Institute of Geography at the University of Bern. His research focuses on climatology and climate impact research, particularly in the context of paleo reanalysis. He completed his MSc in Statistics Data Science at the University of Bern in 2024 and holds an MSc in Particle Physics from Durham University, a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Hamburg, and a BSc in Physics from the University of Bern. Hilfiker has published several journal articles and conference contributions, addressing topics such as epidemic source detection and Covid-19 superspreading. His work emphasizes the use of empirical contact networks and active querying approaches to understand dynamic systems in geographical contexts.
