Biography

Prof. Kueng joined the economics department of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) in 2019. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley in 2012 and holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in economics and mathematics from the University of Fribourg, obtained in 2005. He completed a diploma in economics at the Swiss National Bank's Study Center Gerzensee in 2006. Before joining USI, he was an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Chicago. He served as a Research Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and has been a Research Affiliate at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London. Prof. Kueng's research focuses on household economics and finance, public finance, and applied macroeconomics, with recent investigations into risk, housing ownership versus renting, and the effects of fiscal policies on economic stimulation during financial crises. His work has been published in leading economics and finance journals such as the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Financial Studies, and Journal of Financial Economics. He has also been featured in various media outlets including The Economist and Bloomberg.
