Lorenz Roth is a space physicist and planetary astronomer dedicated to studying the environments of planetary objects within our Solar System. His primary research focuses on the Galilean moons of Jupiter—Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto—especially their tenuous atmospheres and magnetic field environments. He has been involved in projects related to asteroids, comets, the atmospheres and auroras of Uranus and Neptune, the rings of Saturn, and ultra-cool dwarf stars. Roth employs a combination of remote telescope observations, in-situ spacecraft measurements, and modeling tools in his research. After earning his Ph.D. from the University of Cologne in 2012, he worked for several years at the Southwest Research Institute in Texas, USA, before joining KTH Royal Institute of Technology in 2015, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2023.
