Biography

Lorenzo Masia is a Professor of Intelligent Bio-Robotic Systems and the Executive Director of the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MIRMI). His research focuses on robotics, especially exosuits and robot-assisted rehabilitation. He specializes in the design of mechatronic devices for rehabilitation and develops control strategies for human-robot interaction. Furthermore, his work involves mechanisms for controllable compliance, addressing challenges in healthcare and human augmentation. Masia studied Mechanical Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome and received his PhD from the University of Padua. He has conducted research at prestigious institutions including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Italian Institute of Technology. Before joining TUM in 2024, he served as an Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and at the University of Twente. Masia has received several awards for his contributions to the field, including multiple Student Paper Awards from IEEE and has published numerous impactful articles in robotics.
