Dr. Loretta Dolan

Biography

Loretta Dolan is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia, focusing on the intersections of history education and childhood studies. She earned her PhD in Late Medieval/Early Modern Social History from the University of Western Australia, where she also completed her Graduate Diploma in Education and First Class Honours BA from the University of Liverpool. Dolan's research highlights the complexity of children's experiences and child-rearing practices in England from the sixteenth century onwards. She actively examines the ways in which Humanities and Social Sciences teachers can better engage with historical scholarship, aiming to make pertinent research more accessible to educators. Her ongoing projects include a comparative analysis of research conducted with institutions in the UK, focusing on barriers faced by teachers accessing relevant scholarship. She has presented her findings at several international conferences, including the History Education Conference at University College London, and has published a monograph titled 'Nurture Neglect: Childhood in Sixteenth Century Northern England'. Dolan has taught numerous units across undergraduate and graduate programs, contributing significantly to curriculum development and education research.
