Dr. Lori Bastian

Biography

Lori Bastian, MD, MPH, is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, specializing in General Medicine. She has had a distinguished research career spanning over 35 years, initially starting at Duke University Durham VA in 1991 before moving to VA Connecticut and later joining the University of Connecticut in 2012. In January 2016, she was appointed Section Chief of General Internal Medicine at VA Connecticut. Currently, she also serves as the Associate Chief of Staff for Research at VA, overseeing a $40 million research portfolio focused on improving care for Veterans. Bastian's research interests primarily include health services research, particularly concerning veterans and women's health. She has taken on leadership roles such as serving as Principal Investigator for various NIH-VA-supported grants aimed at implementing tobacco-dependence treatments within the VA system and has contributed as a Deputy Editor for the Journal of General Internal Medicine. Throughout her career, Bastian has mentored numerous trainees and researchers in health services research, promoting innovative programs aiding junior faculty in securing K award funding. Her comprehensive background and commitment to mentorship highlight her significant impact in the field of medicine.
