Biography

Lori Stepan is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Penn State’s Eberly College of Science. She earned her B.A. from Northwestern University in 1984 and her Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Indiana University in 1991. Stepan's research focuses on chemical education and the intricacies of transition metal organometallic chemistry. She has been actively involved in training Learning Assistants and promoting hands-on science activities through the Nittany Chemical Society, co-advising student outreach programs. Known for her engaging teaching style, she incorporates active collaborative learning techniques in her general chemistry courses. Over the years, she has received several awards, including the Priestley Prize for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching in Chemistry and has served as an ACS Chemistry Ambassador. Stepan also has experience as a volunteer and has developed various educational materials for chemistry outreach. Outside of her academic responsibilities, she enjoys spending time with her family and pets, and is passionate about music and science demonstrations.
