Dr. Lorna Heaton

Biography

Lorna Heaton is a professor in the Department of Communication at the Université de Montréal and co-director of the Laboratory for the Use and Design of Information and Communication Technologies. Her research primarily focuses on collaboration, particularly the role of technologies in organizing and channeling the transformations brought about by the use of information and communication technologies within groups and organizations. She engages in projects that unite researchers across disciplines, with a keen interest in heterogeneous collaborations. Heaton emphasizes socio-technical innovation and explores relationships in knowledge circulation, especially regarding participatory Web 2.0 technologies. She has supervised numerous graduate theses on topics ranging from the integration of mobile applications in citizen science to the impact of social media interactions among adolescents. Heaton has led and contributed to various research projects funded by prominent agencies, focusing on the intersections between media usage, social change, and participatory practices in scientific endeavors.
