Biography

Lorna Hermosura is a Research Scientist at the Population Research Center within the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Texas at Austin in 2019, as well as an M.S. in Counseling from San Francisco State University and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego. Her research focuses on restorative practices and the school-to-prison pipeline, aiming to address systemic issues affecting marginalized communities. Lorna has co-authored significant publications, including a 2018 paper in Evaluation Program Planning, which discusses methodological lessons on conducting mixed methods needs assessments. She is actively involved in the Department of Education's Education Innovation Research (EIR) grant, working to implement restorative practices across ten campuses in Austin Independent School District. In addition to her research, Lorna teaches courses related to restorative practices, contributing to the academic development of future educators.
