Biography

Lorna Jakobson is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Manitoba, where she has been a faculty member since 1999. She received her undergraduate training at the University of Manitoba, followed by graduate studies at the University of Western Ontario, where she completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Neuropsychology. Her research primarily focuses on human neuropsychology, emphasizing high-level visual functions, social perception, and cognitive processing. One branch of her research examines executive function development and the associated disruptions caused by premature birth and neurodevelopmental disabilities. Jakobson is also interested in neural mechanisms that support musical abilities and the influence of extensive early music training on various perceptual and cognitive skills. In addition to her teaching and research, she has been recognized with several awards, including the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Manitoba and the title of Professor of the Year. She is actively involved in initiatives supporting autism treatment and has served on boards promoting optimal health in early childhood.
