Biography

Lorne L. Dawson is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Waterloo, specializing in Sociology and Legal Studies. He has an extensive research and teaching focus on Terrorism, Radicalization, Religion, Violent Extremism, and Sociological Theory. His research contributions include three authored books, five edited volumes, and 90 academic articles and book chapters, addressing the complexities of terrorism, especially the radicalization process that leads to violence. Professor Dawson co-founded and co-directed the Canadian Network for Research on Terrorism, Security and Society (TSAS) from 2012 to 2023, which received competitive funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and other governmental bodies. He has supervised a significant number of PhD students and is noted for his presentations at various governmental and academic conferences. His work has garnered him multiple Outstanding Performance Awards from the University of Waterloo.
